It’s summer time and it’s hot as hell! What better time to rock a baldie than now? There’s something so powerful in shaving off all of your hair at least once in your lifetime. All that old energy immediately disappears once you shave your crown and it ignites a new beginning. Yesterday, rapper/pop singer Doja Cat went live on instagram showing her fans her new look. I’m not even going to lie I questioned her intention behind it at first like is she okay? But then I remembered that she’s a free spirit and she tends to do very spontaneous things to reinvent herself.
I’ve cut my hair bald about 3 times in my life, maybe more because I lost count at this point. At first it was scary because there is a stigma of “looking like a boy” but after cutting it a few times, I’ve gained a sense of self and a new level of confidence. It’s super annoying having to worry about 10,000 strands of hair on top of your head, all 10 finger nails staying on, your waist expanding, not feeling sexy because you’re bleeding for 5+ days out of the month, or wearing a bra for men to not act like a starving puppy in your presence. Needless to say, being a woman is too much work. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world but if you can find easier ways to feel sexy, do it! Here are 5 reasons why women should feel good rocking a bald haircut:
- Because it’s YOUR hair
Little girls grow into women and they are told that their hair is their beauty. Personally I have to disagree, I think that every part of our bodies are beautiful and we shouldn’t tell our children that they need to have certain things to feel beautiful because it truly comes from within. Your hair becomes apart of your personality and sometimes your personality is influenced by your hair but it shouldn’t define who you are as a person. Growing an attachment to your hair can cause lot’s of unhappiness in a woman’s life and it’s tough to get to a point where you’re like fuck it, I want to do something for me and not care about what people think. It’s up to you to decided your hair color, length, texture because truthfully you’re the one that’s wearing it so screw what anyone thinks of it!
2.It makes life easier
How much money do you spend on hair products, extensions, and salon visits within a year? At this point, keep the receipts sis, you might as well claim hair as an expense when you do your taxes. As a black woman, we get away with protective styling for as long as we like to save money on hair salon visits but it doesn’t save us from the edge control and castor oil addiction that we all seem to have subconsciously. There’s nothing wrong with investing in your haircare but with inflation kicking our ass, I think it’s safe to say, Doja, I feel you girl.
3.It’s sexy AF
There’s nothing more sexy than a woman with a baldie. You get to really appreciate all of their facial features, ears, and throat structures. I know that sounds weird but google women with bald haircuts and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about. The misconception of women feeling like hair makes them prettier is no longer a solid statement because it’s not the hair that makes us beautiful, it’s our skin, our features, our style, and our natural feminine essence.
4. You’ll stand out in a crowd
Have you been to an event and spotted at least 3 people with the same hairstyle? I know I have, so let me tell you about it. I think with social media being such a prominent source for inspiration, it has created the need for everyone to somewhat look the same. Some may say that this is their normal look but have you ever wondered, where certain styles began? The influence to look the same is far more impactful than to stand out and I think as women, we have so many options in styles, why is it common to look similar to 10 other people in a room? It’s important to find your own sense of style and if it means rocking that baldie and experimenting with fun wigs in between, so be it.
5. It’s the beginning of a rebirth
Have you ever wondered why Monks wear baldies? In Buddhism, shaving your head serves as a symbol or renunciation of worldly ego and fashion. As a spiritual being, naturally you’ll shave your head due to wanting a fresh new start. It’s important to purge your energy in ways that will allow for the new energy to flow into your space. Cutting your hair will allow for your crown chakra to open up and embrwce the newness and strength that you truly deserve to move into the next chapter of your life. To some, they look at a woman shaving their head as a form of rebellion but I’d say Britany Spears needed to cut more than just her hair off. In times when you’re depressed or overwhelmed with life, shaving your hair can be a way to feel more replenished so it’s okay if you’re inspired by a challenging chapter in your life, you can start over whenever you’d like because you’re in control so just do what makes you feel alive.
Shoutout to all the women who has chosen to shave their hair off simply because they have the choice to do whatever makes them happy. I know it can be nerve wrecking putting your head shape out into the world but it’s cool to be able to see how you can truly rock it and make it work for you. Whether you decide to shave your head for spiritual renewal or just to switch up your look, your hair does not define you and you have all rights to try new things at any point of your life without having to explain yourself. It’s natural to think that someone is sick or masculine due to having this particular hairstyle but it’s not always the case. Either way, it’s really not your business and we should respect people for who they are without judging them based on a hairstyle. As humans, we have the ability to chose how we look, think, or feel so allow for these changes to flow naturally without judgement.
Always remember that you are beautiful no matter what!
